ARTS San Antonio brings globally significant performers to San Antonio and gives arts lovers the opportunity to experience performers and their talents directly. ARTS SA arranges intimate Meet the Artist events, Galas, Cast Parties, school visits and master classes where adults and youth have opportunities to directly interact with world-class performers.
The worth of a performance is in what the attendee carries away from it, the full impact of which is not easily measured. ARTS SA knows from volunteer and supporters' comments that many who attend these Meet the Artist events and performances have experiences that open them to new and additional cultural experiences. Further, they meet people they didn't expect to meet and otherwise wouldn't have crossed paths with. These healthy and education activities encourage ARTS SA to continue to present performance and social events that make it possible for San Antonians and visitors to become more curious about diverse cultures and mingle with other supporters of culture.
In 1998, ARTS SA began offering ARtsTEach arts-education workshops to San Antonio area elementary school students. Many of the participating San Antonio schools are in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods with students who otherwise would not have art in their lives. ARtsTEach workshops are designed to provide students a broad exposure to the arts and directly correlate to the TEKS requirements for Fine Arts, Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education, Science and Social Studies.
As many as 25 ARtsTEach students per class participate in visual arts, music, dance, theatre, cultural and literary workshops usually one to two hours in length. ARtsTEach offers inspiring arts activities to students which allow them to use planning, reasoning, decision-making, problem solving, fine motor skills and task completion in the creation of their art. In the workshops, students also learn to express themselves and experiment, developing new artistic creations and life experiences. The community benefits from students who make artistic discoveries and, as a result, may increase their involvement and achievements in academic classes.
ARTS San Antonio is a 501(c)(3) performing arts and arts education nonprofit organization, Tax ID 74-2638517.
