Grade 4 - 5, 1.5 Hour Workshop
Workshop Cost $75
China's first Emperor over 2000 years ago built a sumptuous underground tomb, and had an army of 7000 man-sized warriors made of clay guard the tomb. No two are alike, they stand confident and proud, some with a trace of a smile and include cavalry, infantry, crossbow men and chariot drivers. This compelling story links well with the Terracotta Warriors' dance, and with celebrations for Chinese New Year. The students will construct thumb pots, and join them together to make a hollow form for the body of the warrior, and use coils and spheres of clay for head and limbs. Incised and applied clay will complete the warrior's features and costume detailing.
