Grade 3 - 5, 2 Hour Workshop
Workshop Cost $180
Most jugs are based on traditional utilitarian shapes
which go back many hundreds of years. African slaves
brought the “ugly jug” idea with them when they were
brought to the Americas. Potters created face jugs to
ward off evil spirits from their homes or the graves of
their kin. The jugs were also made to protect moon shine
or poisons from young children. The father would tell
the children that there was a “boggy man” in the closet.
Once the children looked in the closet and saw the “boggy man”, it was assured that the jug of liquid was safe. In this fun class students will put their sense of humor on display with their very own “ugly mugs” perfect for protecting their favorite beverage. Please allow 4 to 5 weeks for the items to be fired and returned.
