In 1998 the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) were distributed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). In this document the state outlined requirements for all grades in all curricular areas. Included in this were the "Fine Arts." This proves even more the need for programs like ARtsTEach to continue with their goal of providing services to schools that do not have the resources to cover these curricular areas. Since the new TAKS testing includes more of the TEKS than the TAASII did, it only makes more and better sense to integrate the arts into your student's curriculum. It will not only give them the ideal distraction while still learning, but will also allow them to see things in a different perspective, increase their creative thinking and problem-solving ability.
In order to make it easier to integrate ARtsTEach workshops to your curriculum, you will find that we have matched one or two of the TEKS listings per grade level to each workshop.
